home binder; everything in one place

So my fiance’s cousin bought a house for him and his fiance recently.  She was showed me a binder that the previous owners gave them that had everything she could ever need!!  This binder is a place that you can keep all of your owners manuels, warrentys, and things like that.  EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE!!  When you move into a new house you never dream of having that stuff, so it was wonderful for them.  But I decided that if I start now I’ll have all of the things I need in one place and I can collect them as I get them.  It’s pretty easy to do; just get a binder, some tabs, page protectors, and your done!

I made the cover with word.  I just used a template that word already had, and ended up using the photo that they had because I liked it, even though it may not be perfect.  It’s simple, but it works.  Eventually I’d love to have a photo of our house (once we buy one) with us 🙂

My tabs are Appliances, Furniture, Electronics, Permanent Fixtures, and Other.  Since I am using sheet protectors, the tabs would not come out farther than the protectors.  I learned a trick from my mom; you can cut a little slit in a protector, and slip the page with the tab inside.  It seriously works like a charm!!  It’s hard to see in the photo, but all of the tab pages are in protectors.

it’s time to plan a WEDDING!!

I’m engaged!!  We’ve been together for almost six and a half years, and I’ve known that I would marry him for most of that time.  I’ve been waiting to start planning forever, and so the day after he proposed, I was ready to start working on my wedding binder!!  I purchased one of those fancy binders from a bookstore years ago (with a gift card and sale it was free), but it was full of images and info that I don’t need on a regular basis.  I decided that I’d leave all of that wonderful info in that binder, and take out all of the checklists, and pages that I could fill out and make another binder.  This one, I could take to meeting with vendors, the bridal salon, and just keep everything organized.

The original book I bought.

The most heavy duty binder I could buy.

So after I had my binders I ripped out all of the pages I wanted in the new binder, cut off the fringe edge, and then put them in page protectors.

I then separated those and the images that I’ve cut out of magazines into different sections.  I ended up having 15 tabs that I thought covered all of the basics and they were:

  • to do lists
  • budget
  • attire
  • stationary
  • ceremony
  • music
  • flowers/decorations
  • food
  • photography
  • videography
  • transportation
  • bridal party
  • guests
  • gifts
  • other

I’m still in the process of making the cover.  Since it is such a large binder it has a 12×12 cover that I want to design using scrapbooking stuff.  I’m going to be using this for the next year and a half, and it’s going to be my bible, so I want it to be super cute 🙂  When I make the cover I will post a photo.  You could make this on word if you wanted, especially if your binder cover is 8.5×11.

I seriously can’t wait to start using my new binder to plan my wedding.  And look forward to more info about my wedding planning, tips here and there, because I figure that this goes along with homemaking really well since getting married is, really, making a home.

valentines day craft

It’s that time of the year again; good ole’ Valentines Day.  Quite frankly, it’s not my favorite holiday.  It leads to crazy expectations that don’t get fulfilled and then it leaves both parties down in the dumps.  Maybe I’ve just had bad luck, but that’s been my experience.  Which is why my boyfriend and I plan on having a very low key Valentines Day this year; dinner, movie, done.  But I still want to give him a gift, even if I’m broke.

I saw this idea originally on Pinterest, and then took my own spin on it.  I made a “I love you because…” whiteboard/frame.  I first bought a simple frame and some pretty letters (Target for like $11), and looked through my array of scrapbook paper for some options.  I eventually picked one that was pretty, but not too distracting.

First, I took the insert from the frame and traced the size on the scrapbook paper, and then cut it out.  It won’t show because the frame will cover it, and then you know it will fit exactly.

After that I took a 4×6 photo and set it on the paper to have a basic idea of what it would look like, and so I could figure out where to put the letters.

It was not an exact science, but I then placed the sticker letters on the paper.  I then got the photo printed, and used photo safe stickies to stick it down.  You put it in the frame, and bam your done!  Simple, inexpensive, and fun to put together.

Hope you enjoyed this project 🙂

hello

hello.

My name is Meghan, and I don’t always know what I’m doing.  As a young woman, I am to the point in my life when I am a starting out homemaker.  Am I married? Nope.  Do I have kids? No way.  But I still have a home, and I still want to be that woman that has everything together.  Sadly, I can’t say I’m there yet.  I’m slowly figuring it how, one mistake at a time, and now you can follow along.  I’ll be posting about everything that makes up a home; the food cooked, the decorations, the organization, and the life 🙂

I have a passion for being a homemaker, because secretly it’s one of those dreams of mine.  I want to be a strong women on a career path (I’m a professional photographer) but can also have a great home.  Not perfectly spotless at every moment kind of perfect, but be a woman who can do it all.  I’m not a very good cook, and it’s not my favorite thing.  I think that’s because getting tons of ingredients isn’t cheap, so I don’t do it, and I don’t have a ton of time to slave over the stove.  So through this, I hope to find and share inexpensive and easy recipes.  I do love to bake!  I don’t have tons of time to do so, but I love doing it just because.  I like doing crafts, and things that are decor to make your house look more like a home.  And I’m a freak about organization.  I love office supply stores, and I love being able to organize anything and everything.  That is what really makes me at peace, a bit of organization.

So I hope you’re excited to join me for this journey, because I am 🙂
